Can you identify the contents of this pan?
If your answer included pig snouts, ears, and a hoof, you are correct. These parts are traditionally used in the preparation of Callaloo Soup, Dominica’s national dish, which is also enjoyed across the Caribbean region.
Now take a guess at how many grams of protein are contained in the pan.
If you estimated less than 200 grams of protein, your answer is accurate. These 200 grams constitute the total protein available for 43 homeless individuals in a day, providing approximately 5 grams per person—significantly below recommended dietary requirements. Chronic protein deficiency can lead to muscle wasting, compromised immune response, and other serious health conditions.
This challenge, however, presents an opportunity for meaningful engagement. Restore Caribbean Lives is currently seeking 43 sponsors, each to support one resident of the shelter. A monthly contribution of $80, which is tax-deductible, will ensure that a resident receives a healthy diet for an entire month. Adequate nutrition is often the first step towards restoring hope and improved well-being for these individuals.
To participate in this initiative and support residents at the Dominica homeless shelter, please click on the link www.restorecaribbeanlives.org. Your assistance can provide essential hope and resources to those who are marginalized and underserved.
In His Grace,
Jim
